Softec Programming Competition in collaboration with NUCES-ACM
 
Since 2002, NUCES-ACM Student Chapter has collaborated with the SOFTEC Society to organize the Programming Competition at SOFTEC, an annual 2-day I.T. extravaganza held at FAST-NU annually. The event is the largest of its kind in South Asia. The Programming Competition has traditionally been the trump card for SOFTEC, being it’s most crucial and electrifying event.
 
At the SOFTEC 2007 Programming Competition, NUCES-ACM received as many as 55 participating teams from all over Pakistan, as well as 2 teams each from Iran and Bangladesh. At the SOFTEC 2006 Dynamic Programming Competition, a record 10 foreign, including 8 from India and 2 from Bangladesh, and 45 local teams competed in the event.

SOFTEC Programing Competition 2010 - Belal Hashmi Programing Competition

Practice Session Saturday, 20 March, 2010:

1.    Teams seating timing 10:00 – 10:30 am
2.    Communication of Instructions and Rules 10:30 am – 10:45 am (However will be provided in hard copy along with problem set)
3.    Start of Practice Session 11:00 am – 1:30 pm  (2 hr 30min Practice Session)
4.    1:30 - 2:00 pm Feedback submission
5.    2pm End of Competition (Namaz  - e - Zuhar)

 

Programing Battle Sunday, 21 March, 2010:

1.    Teams seating timing 09:00 – 09:30 am
2.    Communication of Instructions and Rules 09:30 am – 09:45 am (However will be provided in hard copy along with problem set)
3.    Start of Competition 10:00 am
4.    Refreshments 12:30 pm (During the Competition)
5.    Scoreboard Black out 01:00 pm
6.    End of Competition 2pm - (Namaz-e-Zuhar)
7.    Results will be announced in the Closing ceremony

 

 

Note: * Competition duration willbe 4 hours with 7 problems to solve, i.e. 10am – 2pm. All times are GMT +5

 

Specifications and Rules – SOFTEC Programming Competition

Specifications:

  1. Allowed programming languages Java and (MS Visual) C++, support for any other programming language will not be provided.
  2. Provided Hardware Specifications:
    •  DELL/2.0-C2D/2GB/160GB/QWERTY/3button-optical-scroll mouse.
    • No external hardware is allowed.
    • Strictly no storage medium is allowed.
    • If you have special concerns please communicate with us on the email given below.
  3. Software Specifications:
    • WinXP/SP2/New Installation
    • Netbeans 6.5
    • Java SDK 1.6u13 (and corresponding javadocs)
    • Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition
    • MSDN Library 2008
  4. The duration of the competition will be 4 hours. Each team will be given 7 problems and 1 PC.
  5. The competition organizers will provide teams with the problem set, papers and pens.
  6. The competition would include a number of challenging problems each of which would require you to develop some algorithm and get the output in a fixed format on the console. The output would be matched character-to-character with the output of our program through a PC²
  7. The scoring would hence be Yes/No i.e. either correct or incorrect.
  8. The decision of the Judges will be final. 
  9. If there is a tie on the number of problems solved, the scoring will depend on the time taken since the start of competition to the time of correct submission and the number of wrong submissions. (This is automatically judged the PC² and viewable on board).
  10. Live competition boards will be available on each terminal, but it will be disabled in the last hour of competition ;)
  11. The use of standard libraries and functions (methods) provided with the IDEs is allowed.

 

General Rules:

  1. Each team should consist of 3 participants of undergraduate level.
  2. Use of mobile phones and other communication devices is strictly prohibited during the competition. Anyone seen using devices will be immediately disqualified. Such devices should be switched off and placed in pockets / hand bags and not visible or accessible during the competition.
  3. Refreshments will be served so no external edibles are allowed inside the lab. Please be careful with the spillables near electronic hardware.
  4. Participation in practice session is mandatory.
  5. Practice sessions’ results will not affect the final results however it is needed to check your platform for the competition.
  6. All technical queries of the participants will be entertained during the practice session which will be held before the start of the main competition.
  7. Participants can bring programming language helper books with them. However any Data-Structures, Algorithms or Pattern Problem Solutions books will not be allowed inside the venue and should be submitted to the SOFTEC management.
  8. Once the competition starts, any discussion between two different teams may result in immediate disqualification from the competition.

  10. The test cases on the judge’s side may not be the same as given with the problem. You have to cater for number of test cases, end of file and other restrictions if they’re not given on the first line of test cases file.
  11. Each rejected problem will add some penalty. The penalty added for a problem will be calculated as follows:
    1. If the problem is rejected on first submission, then number of minutes from the start of competition to the submission of problem.

                                                              i.      If the problem is rejected on nth submission, then number of minutes from the start of competition to the nth submission of problem plus 20 * (n-1).

    1. The teams are ranked according to the number of problems solved. If two or more teams have solved equal number of problems then the one with the minimum penalty will be ranked higher.
  1. Decision of the competition judges shall be considered as final and cannot be challenged.

  2. Teams creating disturbance will be immediately disqualified.

  3. Disqualification from competition also means escorting out of competition venue and a note will be sent to their respective institutes.

  4. The organizers reserve the right to modify the above mentioned rules and regulations without prior notice. However a notice   Document UPDATED Since DATE   will be placed on top of this document. So read the document atleast one day before leaving for the Competition.
